After my talk on the Basics of Art Photography, came across the following quote in one of the books on photography. I think the author has put it very succinctly. Thought of sharing with the group.  Vivek, please share with alumni who are not part of the portal.

Quote

Successful communication of your message is the essence of creative photography. Reporting the scene is shirking your responsibility; interpreting the scene is accepting the challenge. Though the scene may or may not be your creation, the photograph always is! So don’t just stop with the things you saw; add your comments, feelings, and opinions. Put them all into the photograph. Express your point of view. Argue for your position. Convince the viewer of the validity of your conclusions. Understand what you want to say! Understand how you want to say it! Then say it without compromise! Now you are thinking in terms of creative photography!

Dear Photographers

Thanks for your enthusiastic response for the exhibition. We have a decent number of entries now and would select the final photographs in a day or two. As mentioned in earlier mails by Vivek, the size of prints will be 8″x12″ and the approximate cost of each print will be Rs. 150 which needs to be borne by the photographer. Vivek will coordinate with you for collecting the money. This time the Pune chapter is footing the bill for the display panels.

Also, this exhibition is in conjunction with the talk by Arvind Gupta and the venue for both is the same. Hence, the exhibition is accessible to only those who register for the event. No exceptions! I strongly recommend that you register for the talk, as on its own merit its an event worth attending. Additionally, you will get an opportunity to have a look at other photos that will be displayed and interact with other photographers. It is always a good practice to see as many photos as one can to improve ones own skills. The link for registering is http://iitbaapune.in/2012/08/28/arvind-gupta-talk-drinksdinner-event-on-6th-oct-at-pyc/. I have talked to Sameer and you can pay Rs. 600 at the time of the event. However, prior registration is a must. Please register and drop a mail to Sameer (sameer@alkylamines.com) after registration.

As always we are still accepting photos! However, the deadline is 6 PM today. Please do not send more than 10 photographs in jpeg format and do send a copy of the mail to Vivek (vvshesh@yahoo.com)

Forgot to mention in my earlier post that you need to register (http://iitbaapune.in/2012/08/28/arvind-gupta-talk-drinksdinner-event-on-6th-oct-at-pyc/) for the talk by Arvind Gupta even if your photos are being displayed. Also, access to the photo exhibition will be allowed to only those who register for the talk.

Guys

Still waiting for more photos! So far I have received photos from Nandu Madhekar, Narendra and Nikunj. Request others like Mahdukar, Gautam, Ravindra(Gogte and Prabhune) etc. who actively participated in the last exhibition to send photos at the earliest. Hope you are well and clicking! My internet connectivity is spotty and unlikely to be restored till Monday. Hence request all to send me the photos and mark a copy to Vivek (vvshesh@yahoo.com).

Also to reiterate

1. Please send only 10 photos. We simply do not have the time to go through whole lot of photographs. Also, send jpegs if you have sent links to online albums. If we get more than 10 photographs or online albums, request Vivek to select best 10 as per his choice. Would not recommend that as it should be the photographer who should decide this. Would have loved to assist some of you to select the best shots but we do not have the time. The ones who have sent me the photographs are abiding by this rule. Lets have uniformity here. Also respect the time of the selectors.

2. Maximum 4 photos from each participant. This can be relaxed only if we do not reach the target of minimum 24 photos or we find someone has more than 4 good photographs. This to be decided by the selectors (Vivek, Ranjit and myself).

@Nikunj, we no longer need to restrict the photos to children. If you want to send a better lot please do so.
@Ranjit, have discussed with the Executive Committee (EC) and am happy to let you know that we will accept photos from you. In future, we will do this on a case to case basis and subject to approval by the EC when the chapter is funding the activity. Please go ahead and send you best shots!
@Nandu Madhekar, @Narendra, if you want to change your photos you can still do it subject to the above rules.

We plan to have a meeting on Sunday at Raviraj at 10 AM to discuss the logistics for the exhibition. All of you are welcome to attend. Must attendees are Vivek and Ranjit who are the selectors. We will do the selection either just after the meeting or later in the day. Need to give the images to the printer by Monday latest. We also need to get the tiff images before that. Very tight schedule hence request all to follow the rules above.

Would like to receive more photographs and also suggestions. Call me if you need further clarification.
